Daily Insight: God Alone is King
September 21, 2008
Jonah 3:6 “When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust.”
The tangible presence and declarations of God establish His authority in every situation and always evoke a response of either turning toward God’s love or away from Him.
Mighty King, today I see your beauty in nature and in my times with You, Your word illuminates my heart. Establish Your throne in my heart and in my world, Lord and help me to always turn toward You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Daily Insight: God Supports His Word
September 20, 2008
Jonah 3:4-5 “On the first day, Jonah started into the city. He proclaimed: “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned.” The Ninevites believed God. They declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.”
God always rewards faith. When the power of God’s word is heard and believed He will always respond.
Great and Mighty God, You alone have the power to fulfill Your word. Today, I commit to be Your spokesman and with great expectancy, I will watch You change the hearts and lives of those around me. I am stepping out with faith in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Daily Insight: Freedom in Obedience
September 19, 2008
Jonah 3:3 “Jonah obeyed the word of the LORD and went to Nineveh. Now Nineveh was a very important city—a visit required three days.”
God grants His favor to those who follow His direction. Obedience is not merely a decision. It requires the personal discipline of a change in values and behavior. But, the reward is freedom to be with God and to watch Him work in our world.
Lord of Heaven, I return today to following You. I will obey Your word and the revelation that You so freely give, knowing that in that I will find the pleasure to be with You and to follow your amazing work in the lives of those around me. Teach me to follow You wholeheartedly. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Daily Insight: God Gives 2nd Chances
September 18, 2008
Jonah 3:1-2 “Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time: “Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you.”
God’s passion to bring wholeness and healing to the whole earth offers you and me a second chance to do the right thing. Even though we may have failed in the past, their still remains an invitation to join with God in His future.
Lord, I am here today ready to obey. I am listening to you. I ask that you breathe Your words of life over me and I will follow Your direction to share them with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Daily Insight: Turning to God Secures Our Destiny
September 17, 2008
Jonah 2:10 “And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.”
God is the Creator. He longs to hear us turn to Him so that our darkest circumstances, trials and biggest issues can be used for our best and His glory.
Lord, Today I humbly submit to Your plans. I ask that You would turn things around for me. As I tighten my grip on You, command the evil that surrounds me to loosen its grip so that I will be free to honor You with all that I am. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Daily Insight: Salvation Belongs to the Lord
September 16, 2008
Jonah 2:9 “But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to You. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the LORD.”
God is the only one who brings salvation.
Eternal Savior, You are my rock and refuge in times of trouble. I turn to You and cry out for salvation. Rescue me from myself, my decisions and from the evil that has engulfed me. Deliver me into Your hands that I might be nurtured and loved in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Daily Insight: The Folly of Idols
September 15, 2008
Jonah2:8 “Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs.”
God’s grace is enough. Every difficulty and trial, though large in our own eyes, is not too big in God’s. His grace and mercy cover and protect us from our own waywardness.
Gracious Father, Have mercy on me today. I am overwhelmed with my life and see now that everything that I have trusted in has failed. I choose You and ask for Your grace to cover me and bring me back to life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Daily Insight: Finding God at the Beginning
September 14, 2008
Jonah 3:7 “When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.”
The ending point of our own struggle is the beginning point of a life-giving relationship with God. God patiently waits for us to run out of personal options, then He hears our cries for help and delivers us from evil.
Loving Father, when I choose to take matters into my own hands things only get worse. Today I will go back to the basics and begin with You. Take me and use me for Your purposes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Daily Insight: Our Life is in God’s Hands
September 13, 2008
Jonah 3:6 “To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you brought my life up from the pit, O LORD my God.”
God can be trusted. At the top of a mountain or in the deepest valley God is there. God alone can rescue you from the ‘pit’ and restore you to your destiny.
Almighty God, today I will stop running away from your gentle hands. Rescue me from the whole that I have dug for myself and restore me, I pray. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
