The Great Greenbrier Giveaway

The Great Greenbrier Giveaway
We believe God was generous with us when we didn’t deserve it. So we want to be generous with others to help them receive God’s love.
Did you know that generosity was one of the primary factors of the move of the Spirit in the early church? In Acts 2:45, 4:32 the church is described as giving to one another so that there was no need. In fact, this was one of the comments others made about the early church — they took care of each other AND their community.
I am sure you have something that someone else needs and we want to be used to be the solution of generosity. That’s exactly, what we want to do. So let’s look in our closets and garages. We want to bless our community right around us with our excess. A symbol of love to meet the needs in our community!
Bring as much as you can that is new or “gently used” by the church starting April 9th — from 10 to 4 — and we will get it ready for the “Great Greenbrier Giveaway” on Saturday, April 21st from 11am to 1 pm. All items will be FREE.

WHAT IS JESUS WORTH TO YOU? It’s easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily… BUT WHO DO YOU KNOW WHO LIVES LIKE THAT? DO YOU? In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple–then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a “successful” suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus. Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment –a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.

Many diet experts agree that developing self-control is a key part of weight loss and weight management. But the Bible says that believers develop self-control only when Christ is at the center of their lives. The secret to self-control is giving up control to God! Through this new 12 week Bible study, First Place 4 Health members will learn how to let go of their frantic need to control their circumstances, which often leads to stress induced, out of control eating. They will also take positive steps toward letting God take over management of their mind, emotions, body, and spirit. As Christ moves into first place, life moves into balance.

ANGEL TREE OUTREACH @ GENEVA
December 4, 2011
Where: Geneva Community Center
When: Saturday, December 17th
Time: 5 pm to 7 pm
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. And you know that means our Annual Angel Tree Outreach is just around the corner. Our event is on Saturday, December 17th from 5 PM to 7 PM. This year we will be delivering presents to 100+ children to the Geneva and Chesapeake Mobile Home Park.
Starting November 27th, our Angel Tree will be displayed in the sanctuary. There are 100+ gift tags on the tree with a description of a child along with the gift idea they would like to receive. Each year our Greenbrier families graciously purchase gifts for these incredible children and we pass them out at the outreach on Saturday, December 17th.
We need our Church family to be the hands and feet of Jesus. So pick up a tag, buy a present, deliver it to church no later than Sunday, December 11th. Then join us at Geneva Community Center to deliver our gifts to these precious children.
Please contact Church Office if you are interested in serving this Holiday Season.

“So Long Insecurity” – Wednesday Women’s Life Group
October 24, 2011
We all have insecurities. They piggyback on the vulnerability inherent in our humanity. The question is whether or not our insecurities are substantial to hurt, limit, or even distract us from profound effectiveness or fulfillment of purpose. Are they cheating us of the powerful and abundant life Jesus flagrantly promised? The enemy of your soul has a tremendous amount to gain if you don’t deal with your insecurities. Don’t let him have that kind of victory.
Starting Wednesday, 11/9, you are invited to join me as we seek healing from God for our insecurities and become the secure, confident women we were intended to be!
- Meeting Day: Wednesday, starting 11/9
- Time: 7:00 pm
- Location: Greenbrier Church Conference Room
- Childcare: yes
- Facilitator: Shawna Ruane
