Propel Wed May 23 @7PM

May 22, 2012

Hey Propellers,

This Wed at Propel we conclude Dear Galatians. We’ve talked a lot over the past two weeks about the outer things we do to be a “Christian,” but this week we’re digging a little deeper to get to the heart of the matter—the “why.” The reality is that we can do some really good things with the wrong motivation that will still benefit others. But for us to really experience the full extent and benefit of spiritual disciplines or even living out scripture, we have to remember that it all comes back to loving God and loving others. Today, help connect these crucial dots for students. Let them see how a different approach to Scripture reading, praying, serving, etc. can change the way those things not only impact us, but others.

BOTTOM LINE Sometimes the issue isn’t what we are doing, but why we are doing it.

So why do you come to Propel?

See you Wednesday night @ 7PM. Are you in?

Love ya’ll,
Pastor SammyD

Propel Wed May 16th @ 7PM

May 15, 2012

Hey Propellers,
Here is something to chew on for tomorrow night.
Session Two: The Checklist (May 16th)
What does a Christian look like? Stop for a minute and think about that, because aside from the basic belief that Jesus was the Son of God, He died for our sins and rose from the dead, there are some things that most of us would add to that. Maybe our response would be someone who reads the Bible or helps people in need. Maybe it’s someone who prays every day and attends church regularly. Maybe it’s someone who has memorized a bunch of Bible verses and knows a lot about the Bible. But we also have some responses we probably wouldn’t feel very comfortable saying aloud—things like the kind of music someone listens to, what someone wears or what someone says. So what does a Christian look like? The answer is probably a lot more simple than we make it out to be.

What did you put on the card Jesus+ _________?

See you at 7PM for Propel.

Love and bless ya’ll,
Pastor SammyD

New Series entitled Dear Galatians:

Series Overview

We all like to receive letters. These days they come primarily in an e-mail but in Biblical times, letters were handwritten. The apostle Paul wrote a lot of letters, many of which are included in the Bible. His letters were intended to help the early church sort out what it meant to really follow Jesus. But the Galatians may not have been too excited to get Paul’s letter  because Paul was mad. The Galatian church was a mess. People were saying that what Jesus did on the cross wasn’t enough. They were looking around and determining who was in with God, and who was out. So Paul set out to bring some clarity to the situation in the passionate, sound way that only He could. And while this may seem like a great look back in history, we probably have more in common with the Galatians than we would care to admit.

Session One: Jesus + (May 9)

If Paul was around today, he would be e-mailing and tweeting all the time—and for good reason, people needed his help. God had placed Paul in a strategic point during the early church to help bring some clarity to the chaos. And there was chaos . . . a lot of chaos. People were trying to add to the gospel, saying Jesus’ death and resurrection weren’t enough. That it needed a few extra things to help someone “be a Christian” and be “in” with God. That got Paul fired up, and he set out to clear things up. And thousands of years later, Paul’s words are a great reminder for us because it’s easy to think and act as if what Jesus did wasn’t enough.

See you Wed night at 7PM.

Propel Wed Apirl 18 @ 7PM

April 17, 2012

Hey Propellers,

This week is “Pause” Night at Propel. A night where we “Pause” to breathe in and breathe out the reality that God is active in our lives. We just need to take a break to see that.

Important Dates to Remember for April:

Saturday April 21 Great Greenbrier Giveaway

We believe God was generous with us when we didn’t deserve it. So we want to be generous with others to help them receive God’s love. Did you know that generosity was one of the primary factors of the move of the Spirit in the early church? In Acts 2:45, 4:32 the church is described as giving to one another so that there was no need. In fact, this was one of the comments others made about the early church — they took care of each other AND their community.
I am sure you have something that someone else needs and we want to be used to be the solution of generosity. That’s exactly, what we want to do. So look in your closets and garages. We want to bless our community right around us with our excess. A symbol of love to meet the needs in our community!
Bring as much as you can that is new or “gently used” by the church starting April 9th — from 10 to 4 — and we will get it ready for the “Great Greenbrier Giveaway” on Saturday, April 21st from 11am to 1 pm. All items will be FREE.

Wednesday April 25 Propel Senior Center Outreach For Propel this week we are going to a local Senior Center to bless the residents with a visit and prayer. Meet us at Propel and then we will head over.

See you on Wednesday at 7pm for Propel.

Love ya’ll,
sammyD

Propel Wed 7PM

April 10, 2012

Hey Propellers,

This week concludes part two of the Cross series.

If the cross is where we come to die, then how do we live? Because the cross isn’t the end of the story—there’s also an empty tomb. The cross isn’t just about death, it’s about life. We die to something, but we also live as well. After all, Jesus says: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10 NIV). This week, we’ll talk about not settling for a half-life, but a life that is full.

Remember you were to ask yourself some questions:

• What consumes your thought life?
• Do you try to control everyone and everything around you?
• Do you get angry quickly?
• How do you treat others (parents, siblings, friends, etc.)?  • Do you struggle with insecure feelings? Do you struggle with feeling not appreciated? (Both can reveal a problem with pride.)  • Is there an area of your life that you say “hands off” to God? • What area (or areas) of your life is ruled by something or someone other than God?

During worship we use the Cross as a place where we can write down these things and nail them to the cross. Should be cool imagery.

Love ya’ll,
Pastor Sammy D

Questions to Ponder

April 6, 2012

Propellers,
This past Propel we discussed that the Cross is not just where Jesus died, but also a place where we go to die. Ask God to reveal one thing in their lives they need to die to. Look over the following questions and see what area(s) you need to bring to the Cross. During worship on Wednesday we will do just that.
• What consumes your thought life?
• Do you try to control everyone and everything around you?
• Do you get angry quickly?
• How do you treat others (parents, siblings, friends, etc.)?
• Do you struggle with insecure feelings? Do you struggle with feeling not appreciated? (Both can reveal a problem with pride.)
• Is there an area of your life that you say “hands off” to God?
• What area (or areas) of your life is ruled by something or someone other than God?

Pastor SammyD
