There are 5 homework assignments a week which take approx 15 minutes a day to complete.

We have heard great reviews from other ladies small groups at Greenbrier who have already been through the series, all agreeing that they have benefited greatly from the practical wisdom and applicable lessons clearly presented by Priscilla each week!

Please feel free to invite a friend or two-this study is a life changer as you learn to grow closer to the Lord and truly to “hear” His voice!

God is Building Something Beautiful in You

April 30, 2011

Truth:  God has placed a unique value on each one of us.  To those around us some may have more important roles, or super talents, but to God each of are equally important to His good plan and can be used for His glory.  God’s gifts are all good and they fit together so that we belong to one another and glorify Him with our love and deeds.

Scripture: “God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for one another.” 1 Corinthians 12:21-26

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, I praise You today for holding the whole universe together and for crafting Your plan through imperfect people like me!  Thank You for the privilege of being used to share Your love with others and to help them see the value that You place on each of us – large or small, popular or unnoticed. I will honor You today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God Gave You a Spiritual Gift

April 29, 2011

Truth:  God is the One who gives spiritual gifts.  You have been given a very special spiritual gift from God that can only be activated through His grace given to You at salvation.  The good news is this:  when you receive His free gift of grace He gives you the power to be His children and use His gifts to glorify Him every day of Your life.

Scripture: “But to each one of us grace gifts have been given as Christ apportioned it…[so that we might be equipped] and so that the body of Christ might be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God.” Ephesians 4:7,11-13. 1 Peter 4:10

Prayer:  Gift-giving Eternal Father, Thank You for your eternal gifts that have no end. You have given me salvation through the work of Your Son on the cross, new life and the power to overcome evil with good.  At the same time, Your daily grace brightens my day with joy and offers me gifts to bless others in Your name.  I will praise You and use the gifts You have given me to make You known.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Apples of Gold” Mentoring Program

April 28, 2011

Greenbrier Women’s Ministry

“Apples of Gold” Mentoring Program

Mid May –June 2011

Apples of Gold is a six-week mentoring program based on Titus 2:3-5:

“Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.”

In addition to practical teaching of cooking/homemaking skills, mentors will guide the participants through a six-week bible study on such topics as: kindness, loving your husband, loving your children, submission, hospitality, and purity.

This is a relational study, meeting in homes with a group of 3-4 mentors and 4-8 participants in each group.

This program is for any woman interested in being mentored by other women.

Current groups are being formed for Monday mornings, Tuesday evenings, and Thursday evenings.

If you’re interested in being involved, please email women@greenbrierchurch.com by Wednesday, May 4th!

If you have questions, feel free to call Melanie Bedogne at 757.589.3157.

Cost: $5 to purchase the book

Proverbs 25:11 “Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken in right circumstances.”

God Shows His Power in Your Weakness

April 28, 2011

Truth:  God knows just what you need.  His gifts are good, fruitful and lasting. There are “mountaintop” times of bounty and blessings, and God uses those for His glory.  There are other “valley” moments that expose our inabilities, weaknesses and sufferings.  God uses these moments to showcase His strength.

Scripture: “To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassing great revelations, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.  Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness’.” 2 Corinthians 12:7-9

Prayer:  Eternal God, You are strong and filled with goodness.  I am thankful that You have chosen to use my own shortcoming as points where Your grace can be strong.  Help me to increase my dependence on You so that even when I am weak, I can be strong in You.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God’s Grace is at Work in You

April 27, 2011

Truth:  God knows that on your own life can be a lifeless struggle, and that is why He freely gives His grace to all those who follow Him.  It is by His grace you are saved in His son Jesus. It is by grace that you grow in Him, follow His path and live for Him.  His grace is an amazing gift that empowers you to live for Him and pleasure in Him.

Scripture:  “But by the grace of God I am what I am and His grace to me was not without effect”…for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose.” 1 Corinthians 15:10, Philippians 2:13

Prayer:  Gracious Father, Today I place my hopes and dreams in your hands.  I know that the gift of Your saving grace comes to me through Your Son, Jesus, and I receive the new life that He offers.  Help me, Lord to operate by and through Your grace and not in my own strength.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God Has Given You Purpose

April 26, 2011

Truth: God has charted a daily path for you. It is filled with the richness of His presence and guarantee of His goodness being used to re-create your life into something better, more beautiful and valuable. God turns everything for the good!

Scripture:  “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of His Son. And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified.” Romans 8:28-30

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, I give You thanks for the good plans that You have for me.  You have crafted my days, designed my future and, by following You, I can have confidence that my spirit will be cleansed, strengthened and made pure to honor You.  Thank Your for working all things to my good. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Comparing Yourself With Others Is Foolish

April 25, 2011

Truth:  God made You to honor Him, and it gives Him great pleasure to work through you.  When you compare yourself with others rather than the truth of God’s word confusion sets in and foolishness, not wisdom, becomes your daily God.  God loves what he made – you!

Scripture:  “We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves.  When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.” 2  Corinthians 10:12

Prayer:  Eternal Wise God, You have made me perfect in Your eyes and designed my heart, my motives and my actions to live for you.  Please help me today to not fall into the foolish distractions of comparison or an over emphasis on self-analysis. I will choose instead to worship You, to honor and respect the incredible works of Your hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen
