God’s Pattern of Fulfillment begins with a Generous Heart

Truth: When the world around you screams, “what’s in it for me?” Or, “how can I get mine first?”  We must remember that these cries come from a self-interested world where there is never enough.  Jesus, on the other hand, offers a principle that instantly transforms the heart to be filled with lasting meaning.  What is it?

It is the principle of generous giving!  As the manager of the resources entrusted to us, God’s plan is very clear – it is better to give than to receive. Why?  Because a generous heart yields control of our resources over to God and then creates a bond of dependence on Him as our Source. Plus the person who gives has a vested interested in the success of the recipient.  Generosity connects us to one another.

Scripture: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35

Prayer: Dear Lord, Today I will take a step toward generosity.  I know You have said that it is better to give than to receive, but this so opposite from the voices that flood my mind every day.  Help me be disciplined and listen to You so that I can become a generous giver. I will need wisdom to have enough “left over” this month so that I can give to others, so teach me to be diligent in managing the good gifts you have given me.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
