God’s Word is Good
August 23, 2010
Truth: Need insight and wisdom for the day? Troubled by the circumstances around you that you can’t control? There is a place to turn that is guaranteed to give you the truth and provide a good, clear and concise journey to wisdom. It is God’s word.
Here is what evangelist and author Billy Graham said about just one portion of the Bible: “The Ten commandments are just as valid today as when God gave them to Moses over 3000 years ago.”
Scripture: Our Scripture reading today is 1 Thessalonians – Philemon and the key verse is: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am grateful today for the dependability of Your word. It is always true, always good and You breathed it into existence. More than just a good book it is life-giving and guides my day. Help me today to apply the richness of Your word to my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God is Here
August 22, 2010
Truth: As the Creator of the all things God is actively involved in both the big events and in the every day activities of Your life. He is the sustainer of the universe and the One who holds your life together. Even better, He is not distant or too pre-occupied with the crisis of the day to hear your prayer. He is God, He is good and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Scripture: Our Scripture reading today is Galatians 4 – Colossians 4 and the key verse is: “There is one body and one Spirit – just as you were called to one hope when you were called – one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Ephesians 4:4-6
Prayer: Eternal and All Powerful God, Thank You for being in charge of my life. I admit today and I am not capable of managing all the details, surprises and challenges that come across my path. Help me to know today that You are in charge, filled with goodness and blessing and that You have called me to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Small Groups Launch in September
August 21, 2010
It is that time of year! We will be launching our Small Groups @ Greenbrier over two Sundays, September 5th and 12th. Three out of four adults that attend Greenbrier Church join a small group each year. Small Groups are a place for our members and attendees to “plug in” to what God is doing in our midst. It says in Hebrews 10:25, “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Life is about relationships. At Greenbrier, we want to do life together. Being part of a network of good friends can provide one with the strength, confidence, and joy needed to carry out our personal and corporate callings in Christ. We all need to be in relationship and fellowship with God and each other.
Here’s the challenge: 1) check out all the small groups offered @ Greenbrier in the booklet provided on September 5th; 2) choose the top three small groups you’d like to attend; 3) come find out more about the groups on September 5th and 12th from 10:30 am to 11:00 am in the Fellowship Hall; 4) pick one, sign up, make new friends, and grow in your walk with God!
God is Truth
August 21, 2010
Truth: God is Truth. He can be counted on for an accurate understanding of the past, a good read on the present and the right perspective for the future. As the Creator, Sustainer and Finisher of the earth, there is nothing that can take Him by surprise or cause Him to lie. He is truth and follow Him will lead you and guide you to His goodness and blessing.
Author of the Webster’s Dictionary, Daniel Webster said this, “”If there is anything in my thoughts or style to commend, the credit is due to my parents for instilling in me an early love of the Scriptures. If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will go on prospering and to prosper; but if we and our posterity neglect its instructions and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity.”
Scripture: Our Scripture reading today is 1 Corinthians – Galatians 3 and the key verse is: “I hope you will put up with a little of my foolishness; but you are already doing that. I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.” 2 Corinthians 11:1-4
Prayer: Gracious Father, Today I ask that You would lead my heart and my mind to Your truth. Keep me from straying in the wrong direction and guide me to everlasting life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
God Blesses Unity
August 20, 2010
Truth: It is often said that if you get two people in a room it is likely that you have three opinions! Our own human nature feeds our sense of insecurity and causes us stand strongly for our ideals, even when it causes hurt among others. God never asks us to compromise with evil intentions, but he also wants us to work for unity.
Scripture: Our Scripture reading today is Romans 15 – 1 Corinthians 14 and the key verse is: “I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought”. 1 Corinthians 1:10
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I know that Your eyes look throughout the earth for those whose hearts are pure and actions are righteous. Help me to live in a way that honors You and blesses others. I know that where there is unity You will bring a blessing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
God is Our Redeemer
August 19, 2010
Truth: Each and every one of us has done wrong. We have been selfish with our actions, hurtful with our words and have not honored God with our words. The simple word for these actions is sin. We have all done it and every single one of us don’t deserve to stand before a perfect, loving and gracious God. We need a rescue
Scripture: Our Scripture reading today is Acts 28 – Romans 14 and the key verse is: “…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:23-24
Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are filled with love and mercy and I am overcome with guilt and shame. When I take a look at who I really am it is clear that I need a Savior and that You alone are the one who can rescue me from my own sin. Please forgive me of my wrongdoing and come into my heart to rule, to reign and to guide me in the way of everlasting life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
God Loves Cheerful Givers
August 18, 2010
Truth: Ever been in a one-sided relationship? The kind where someone asks things of you, but never returns the favor, refuels or re-fires you when you are weary? God-filled people are different. They love to give and they keep giving, because God continually fills them to overflowing.
Scripture: Our Scripture reading today is Acts 16-27 and the key verse is: ““It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35b
Prayer: Mighty and Ever-Generous Father, How grateful I am today that You are a giving God. You offered me love and forgiveness, redemption and wholeness and brokenness when I had nothing to offer You. Beginning today, help me to become a generous giving person. Fill me to overflowing with Your hope and love so that I can bring joy to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God’s Love is Unstoppable
August 17, 2010
Truth: Throughout history evil empires, tyrants and dictators have caused pain, heartache, suffering and even death to those whose hearts are loyal to Jesus Christ. But the name of Jesus is more powerful than the darkest thought or the most evil act. He love can never be quenched.
Scripture: Our Scripture reading is Acts 6-16 and the key verse is: “And Saul was there, giving approval to his death. On that day a great persecution broke out against the church at Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. Godly men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him. But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off men and women and put them in prison.
Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Christ there. When the crowds heard Philip and saw the miraculous signs he did, they all paid close attention to what he said. With shrieks, evil spirits came out of many, and many paralytics and cripples were healed. So there was great joy in that city.” Acts 8:1-8
Prayer: Almighty God, Even when my day is dark and my life seems isolated from hope I have confidence in You. Help me to face the brightest of days and discouraging moments knowing that You are King and Savior. I will serve You and You alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
