God is Worthy

June 30, 2010

Truth:  There is only one supernatural being who is worth emulating, following and living for.  He is good, noble, righteous, holy, pure, filled with love and peace, slow to anger, quick to forgive and always wiling to reconcile Himself to you.  He is God and He is worthy of your worship, trustable with your soul, and devoted to your eternal well-being.

Scripture:  Our Scripture reading today is 1 Chronicles 10-23 and the key verse is: “Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. 1 Chronicles 16:8

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, I choose to worship You today. There is no other person on earth or in heaven that is worthy like You.  I know that when You are in the right place in my own heart I am at peace so I ask You to reign in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God Desires to Bless You!

June 29, 2010

Truth:  God has chosen to declare His goodness and glory in the earth through those who choose to follow Him.  This means that if you choose Him to be Your Savior and Guide, He will expand His influence in your life.  He will use you in ever increasing measure.

Thomas Jefferson said, “I have always said and will always say that the studious perusal of the Sacred Volume will make better citizens, better fathers, better husbands…the Bible makes the best people in the world.“

Scripture:  Our Scripture reading today is 1 Chronicles 1-9 and the key verse is: “Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.” 1 Chronicles 4:9-10

Prayer:  Merciful Father, I am thankful today that You have chosen to declare Your glory among the nations and to reconcile all people back to you through people like me. Transform me so that I can be used to a greater degree to share Your goodness with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God Can Be Trusted

June 28, 2010

Truth:  Who can be believed?  Which of the news reports, documentaries and commentaries are true and objective?  Truthfully every report given by a person is limited and biased to their education and experience.  How much better than to receive the report of the Lord – it is also accurate, truthful and filled with love and mercy.

By reading ALL of God’s Word, we are learning much more about Him than if we just read bits and pieces of the Bible. Ideally, this learning will be a springboard to a new way of relating to Him.

Scripture:  Our Scripture reading today is 2 Kings 15-25 and the key verse is: “Hezekiah trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel. There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after him. 2 Kings 18:5

Prayer:  Eternal Savior and Mighty God, Thank You for being the Way, the Truth and the Life.  When my world seems filled with confusion help me to always turn to You. You are my light and my salvation.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God is a Healer

June 27, 2010

Truth:  Life is filled with ups and downs, pleasantries and dangers, the routine and the unexpected.  Each day is filled with a combination of circumstances that cause stress and peace.  You can learn to navigate through the obstacles of life when You make God  and His eternal word the #1 priority in your life. He not only has a solution – He is the solution to your needs.

Martin Luther summarized it well when he said, “The Bible is the cradle wherein Christ is laid.”

Scripture:  Our Scripture reading today is 2 Kings 4-15 and the key verse is: “The stew was poured out for the men, but as they began to eat it, they cried out, “O man of God, there is death in the pot!” And they could not eat it.  Elisha said, “Get some flour.” He put it into the pot and said, “Serve it to the people to eat.” And there was nothing harmful in the pot. 2 Kings 4:40-41.

Prayer:  Eternal Father, There is so much about my day that I don’t of which I have no control.  Rather than view these unexpected events as things that add stress to me, today I am asking You to help me yield each one of them to You.  As I apply the truth of Your word to my day I thank You that Your peace will dominate my day.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God Speaks Louder when it is Silent

June 26, 2010

Truth:  Most of our lives are filled with noise.  Radios, TV, music and conversations fill the “space” of our minds and compete for our attention.  But the voice of God will not compete as an equal with any other input.  When we learn to quiet our souls and reduce the noise around us there is usually a still small whisper of truth.

Scripture:  Our Scripture reading today is 1 Kings 16 – 2 Kings 4 and the key verse is: “The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by. Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind.

After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake.  After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.” 1 Kings 19:11-13a

Prayer:  Gracious Father, I thank You today for Your patience and mercy.  Help me today to tune my ears away from the noise and interruptions of my day and find “space” to be still, to be quiet and to listen to the powerful truth and obedience of Your word.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God Deserves the Best

June 25, 2010

Truth:  Much of our daily routines are filled with busyness; chores to accomplish, duties to fulfill and mundane activities that, to some, don’t deserve our best. But since our lives are ongoing offering to God, He deserves our very best efforts, especially when it comes creating a place for Him to dwell.

As you work toward a life devoted to Him today, think of the words of Allen Huth, the founder of the Ezra Project:  “God wants to spend time with you daily.  He wants to communicate with you through his Word!  The Word is not a dusty old book for generations gone by; it is relevant to everyday life.  Read it every day.”

Scripture:  Our Scripture reading today is 1 Kings 7-15 and the key verse is: “In the eleventh year in the month of Bul, the eighth month, the temple was finished in all its details according to its specifications. He had spent seven years building it. It took Solomon thirteen years, however, to complete the construction of his palace. 1 Kings 6:38-1 Kings 7:1

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I honor You today.  Help me to see You and Your word as my top priority!  No matter how long it takes, or how much the effort it takes I want my life to reflect Your saving grace and the truth of Your word.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God Wants You to Prosper

June 24, 2010

Truth:  There are lots of self-help books, CDs and other tools that are produced each year to motivate people to success.  Most of them contain practical information about improving self-discipline and strengthening resolve.  Then there is the truth found in God’s word.  God’s plans for you are good, strong and faith-filled with a big desire for you to succeed. But God’s ways begin with a radical obedience to His word and an honoring of Him above else.

Scripture: Our Scripture reading today is 2 Samuel 22 – 1 Kings 7 and the key verse is: “When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son. “I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, show yourself a man, and observe what the LORD your God requires: Walk in his ways, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and requirements, as written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go…. 1 Kings 2:1-3

Prayer:  Eternal Father, Thank you for wanting the best for me.  I am choosing today to no longer follow shortsighted advice that has me look inside myself for answers. Instead, I will look to YOU and will keep your commands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God’s Love is True and Never-ending

June 23, 2010

Truth: The news is filled with short-term romances, selfishly focused passion and “love” that seeks its’ own benefit. Nothing could be further from a God-formed love.  God’s love always seeks other’s benefit, is eternal and has at it’s core truth and mercy.

Scripture:  Our Scripture reading today is 2 Samuel 12-21 and the key verse is: “The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept. As he went, he said: “O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you-O Absalom, my son, my son!” 2 Samuel 18:33

Prayer:  Loving Father, Help me today to focus on You, the source of true love, mercy and forgiveness.  I am tired of being hurt by the selfish motives of others and admit to you that I have been no better.   I have chosen to love conditionally.  But from today onward I want Your gracious, self-less love to fill my being and over flow into the lives of others.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
