Get Ready for the New

August 31, 2008

This week I saw lots of families out shopping and getting ready for the new school year. Stores were a buzz with people buying clothes, shoes, supplies and groceries.  There was an excitement in the air — because new is good. Looking at things with new eyes, a fresh perspective, and a new energy gives us the opportunity to take a step back from our busyness and see what God wants to do in and through us. Even God said “see I am doing a new thing.” (Isaiah 43:19).

You and I are entering a season of God’s newness. While we are excited to see the facitility improvements in our worship venues, there is much much more in store for you as you connect to God and to one another.  Ask God to show you His new for you!  Find a small group where you can belong, grow with us and choose a place to serve.  God’s new will change you for the better — forever!

Men’s Ministry @ Greenbrier

August 29, 2008

We discovered something incredible:

•    We have 5+ men’s small groups coming this Fall
•    We have two retreats planned each year
•    We have quarterly workdays where men get together to accomplish incredible things
•    We have a church filled with awesome men who lead their families

Keep your eyes open for upcoming men’s activities. Make sure you join one of the men’s small groups on Sunday, September 7th or 14th. We look forward to doing great things for God together!

Thumbs up for SG Leaders meeting

August 29, 2008

We had a wonderful meeting last Wednesday with small group leaders that will be leading this Fall. We discussed the elements of a small group and the responsibilities a small group leader takes on when leading our Greenbrier Church families. I am excited to launch our groups on September 7th and 14th.

Each Greenbrier member and attendee will have the opportunity to meet the various leaders on those two Sundays and choose which group they would like to join. At Greenbrier, small groups are the primary way to find community and really connect with one another. We “do life together” in small groups!

If you would like to lead a small group @ Greenbrier, please contact Pastor Curtis.

Come get your craft on….

August 27, 2008

Ladies,

it’s time once again to pull out those photos you’ve been meaning to do something with. Dust off the boxes of paper, scissors, and supplies and head over to Marsha VanNorman’s on Friday night September 5 at 6:30. If you don’t currently scrapbook then bring another project or craft or just come to hang out and have fun. We’ll be grazing at a salad bar so bring along a favorite topping or dressing. Marsha’s address is 833 Redleafe Circle Chesapeake, Va. Her phone number is 482-2701 if you need more information. Just so you know, there will be no childcare provided but nursing babies are always welcome!!!

Hearing His Voice

August 27, 2008

I’ve been meditating a lot lately on the Shema that we’ve been learning about on Sunday mornings this month. The words “Hear Oh Israel, the Lord Our God, The Lord is One” have been ringing loudly in my ears. It is so very important to HEAR from God and then do what He says. It can make all the difference in your life. It has in mine…

One day about 25 years ago, I passed a sign for a church on the corner of Volvo and Greenbrier Parkway. Just newly married, we had been searching for a place to call “our church.” It felt like the Lord said “That’s the place for you.” I wasn’t a keen hearer back then but Terry and I went a few Sundays later and soon found our place to call HOME. We’ve made lifelong relationships with individuals and families we’ve met along the way. Our lives would be so different if we had not heard that voice and obeyed the word we heard. Our daughter may have never met her husband at youth group. Our son would have never met his 3 lifelong best friends. God is so good to us. He’s always speaking but do we have ears to HEAR? What has the Lord been speaking to you?

On My Way-”inROUTE”

August 27, 2008

Have you ever gotten a text or call from someone that says…”I’m on my way? It is a way of saying that you’ve left but you haven’t arrived quite yet. Our spiritual lives are much like that. We’ve left one destination bound for another. That’s where the name “inROUTE” came from.

A cool thing about this journey we’re on is we get to go to the next place with friends that we meet along the way. Relationships are begun and nurtured into covenant friendships that are almost like family. We even get the privilege of inviting anyone and everyone to go along with us.

This trip is a fantastic adventure. Sit back and enjoy the ride and especially the company you meet “inROUTE.”
